PurposeUnder the direction of the Project Manager, Senior Engineer, and Engineer III, the Engineer II is responsible for support of transportation and infrastructure project execution and the inspection and documentation of various construction engineering projects including various types of civil engineering.
ResponsibilitiesLeadership and Direction
- Receive general instruction on key objectives for execution. Receive direction as needed, and especially complex assignments, modified techniques, and new approaches on assignments with conflicting criteria. Work is completed using advanced techniques and principles and is reviewed by more senior staff to ensure application of sound professional judgement. Review work produced by junior staff for quality assurance.
At the Operational and Company Level
- Assist with the marketing of the firm’s capabilities to establish new clients and enhance relationships.
Do the Work
- Read and comprehend contract drawings, standard drawings, and specifications.
- Identify, report and document construction activities in compliance or not in compliance with contract documents.
- Measure, document, and calculate quantities of project work performed.
- Gather data and make decisions based upon engineering principles.
- Write technical reports to document daily construction activities.

- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related engineering discipline required at time of employment.
- Three or more (3+) years of experience in construction and civil engineering.
- CPM scheduling knowledge and estimating abilities required.
- Demonstrated knowledge of construction engineering principles, techniques, and procedures.
- Flexibility to work inside or outside at any given time of the year.
- Basic understanding of the material properties of soil, aggregates, concrete, and bituminous mixes.
- Experience with Microstation, AutoCAD and Civil3D.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred, or progress toward completion
- Outdoor work environment which may include adverse weather conditions, varying temperatures, excessive noise, and/or potential hazards.
- Mobility around a job/construction site to include walking, bending, crawling, climbing, squatting, or kneeling and wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
- Primarily local travel during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be required according to the needs of the business.
- Occasional lifting or carrying up to 20 pounds.
- Occasional pushing or pulling up to 20 pounds.
- Occasional reaching outward or above shoulder.
Salary and eligible variable compensation (if any) commensurate with experience. Range $60,000 - $85,000 and includes a comprehensive benefits package.
